Celiac-Safe, Gluten-Free Tamales

Eating out just got easier

"We have so many people who say, 'It's nice to not have to think of what we're ordering,' " said Todd Martin, who opened the Tucson Tamale Company in 2008. With just a couple of small adjustments to the menu, Martin made all his tamales completely gluten-free.

Masa, which is made from ground corn, is naturally gluten free. Where things go awry is when binders or additives are put into the masa -- we don’t do that. Our masa is made from Organic Corn Flour, non-GMO canola oil and organic vegetable broth. All of our fillings are also free of binders, additives or flour based thickening agents. We want our ingredients to sing to you -- which is why we don’t add unnecessary additives, preservatives or crap.

The menu, which has something to please every taste, has earned high praise from the Southern Arizona Celiac Support Group where it is listed on their website under Restaurant Reviews.

Naturally Gluten-Free

The best way to stay away from gluten is to be aware of what food items are naturally gluten-free. Fruits, vegetables, meat and poultry, fish and seafood, dairy, beans, legumes, and nuts are all naturally gluten-free foods. Tucson Tamale products are naturally gluten-free.

Certified Gluten-Free

The Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO) is the leader in gluten-free certification. The GFCO certification mark stands for the independent verification of quality and integrity, and products that carry the mark represent unmatched reliability for meeting the strictest of gluten-free standards.

New logo, same standards

In a recent press release (March 2020), the Gluten Intolerance Group announced the change in their logo:

“The Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG), an industry leader in the certification of gluten-free products and food services, announced it is rebranding the Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO) mark to support its expanding presence in international markets. To date, over 60,000 products from 51 countries have earned GFCO certification. The GFCO certification program protects consumers with gluten-related disorders by confirming that a product meets strict standards for gluten-free safety. GFCO companies will have until 2022 to completely adopt the new mark on packaging.”
